West Virginia Hospital Charges, Nursing Home & Surgery Data, 2008 annual report
Table 14 shows average charges (prices) in 2007 (first 9 months) for the top 10 hospitalizations by DRG or MSDRG. Example: hip or knee replacement cost an average of $28k or $29,000 (depends on code); normal delivery was about $6000 plus $1400 for the baby. Most recent 2008 Annual Report by the West Virginia Health Care Authority (WV HCA) also shows financial information for each hospital and nursing home during 2007, and profit margins for ambulatory surgery centers.
